Prepare for Autumn Plantings

Event information

This event has passed.

Thanks to Michael for hosting a great Plot Talk on Saturday morning.

Here's just a few of his tips on preparing for the incoming season’s planting;

🌱 Pinch back your tomato plants to concentrate the plants energy into ripening the last of its fruit.

🌱 Chop up the veggie plants you are pulling out & dig them back into your soil.

🌱 Grab as much compost as possible, turn it into the soil & let the soul rest, while you decide what to plant.

🌱 Plant brassicas once it has cooled & you notice the white butterflies have gone. Look out for the new Multi Head Cauliflower (pictured).

🌱 Broad beans go in in May - they grow tall, so consider your plot neighbours & stake them well.

🌱 Plant potatoes in August/September. Supermarket ones work just fine. Let them sit in a warm place until they start to shoot, then plant, covering the well. They should be ready to dig up at Christmas time.
